Govt urge civil servants to join burial funds established in places of work

The government has urged its civil servants to develop the habit of joining burial funding societies in their places of work or in domiciles whose aim is to finance a bereaved member cater for the help incase of deaths of their beloved ones. The deputy minister of State in President’s office responsible for local government and regional administration George Kakunda said in parliament that, the government does not have money to give as a condolence to workers which belongs to a single family incase one of their parents dies. He said, instead the government issues the fund to an elder member of the family in public service who would be a representative of others incase all of them are born by the single father of mother who might have met such untimely death. The deputy minister was responding to the question which was earlier raised by Mafinga legislator Kosato Chumi (CCM) who wanted to know plans by the government of helping the bereaved civil servants whose parents have died and need help from the government. Kakunda further noted that, for the case of men with more than wives he said that and added that, the government would acknowledge giving help to a single woman, he also clarified that having more wives is in line with the religious affiliations of a believer and not the government. However, he noted that, the government will continue reviewing the existing labour laws in the country which abide by such rules and regulations set so as to see how it will work in future.
