TCRA alerts general public over controversial SMS


Tanzania Communication Regulatory Authority (TCRA) has cautioned the general public not to respond to the short text messages (SMS) sent in their mobile handsets requesting them to send money to the prescribed number which appears on their phone handsets. TCRA’s Director General Eng. James Kilaba told journalists over the weekend in Dar es Salaam that,  TCRA as a national regulator of all transactions entered through mobile phones has issued a special book which would direct users on how to make use of their phones and never accept any deceit. However, he has requested users to repudiate such controversial messages which comes across on their mobile phone screens, while on their part are currently working with the security agents to net the culprits who cheats to lure people’s mind into facilitating illegal transactions by theft.

He noted that, once their investigations is complete will expose such mischievous acts in public view as none among the defaulters will ever escape in a trap already set to net them bearing in mind the fact that this is a criminal offense. Scores of mobile phone users across the country have been receiving controversial short text messages occasionally requesting them to send money to the prescribed numbers which appears on the screens of their mobile phones leaving them stranded on what to do. TCRA has however discovered that unknown mindset people who do such things are online thieves who have strategically planned a secret mission to steal money from sender’s mobile bank accounts.
