Govt to empower COSOTA to help Tanzanian artistes

The government has formed a committee composed of professionals who will go through and scrutinize artistes’ contracts as well as their performed works and thereby issue them with licenses. The deputy minister for Information and Culture, arts, youths and sports Juliana Shonza said in Parliament on Monday this week that, the aim is to avoid duplication of some of their works being dome by unscrupulous traders who want to become richer through their works. Under the process, the governments has also come up with the idea of empowering Copyright Society of Tanzania (COSOTA) and make it work under the ministry of information so as to give it full mandate to look after the welfare of artistes in the country.
