Government promises a relief for cotton farmers in lake zone


All cotton yields to be harvested this year in Bunda district, Mara region will be bought by the private companies, the government has said in parliament today. The deputy minister fir Agriculture Dr. Mary Mwanjelwa has assured ti all farmers in the district that all their cotton yields will be bought. The deputy minister was responding to the question earlier raised by Bunda legislator Boniface Getere(CCM) who wanted to know plans by the government to buy cotton product from the indigenous farmers at an affordable price rate. The minister noted that, the district is expecting tko harvest more than 23,000 tones of cotton per year during the harvesting period which has started in May this month. She further noted that, two private companies have been approved byh the government to buy the cotton from the district and there is no doubt with their economy whatsoever.
