Sugar to be available in shops throughout the month of Ramadhan

As members of Muslim community are due
to start fasting two weeks ahead from now, the government has assured the
availability of enough stock of sugar commodity in shops throughout the holy
month of Ramadhan. The Prime Minister Kassim Majaliwa said last week in
Parliament when answering an impromptu question directed to him by Special Seat legislator
Halima Bulembo (CCM) and cleared doubts of any deficit likely to occur on the
course of fasting days. The legislator wanted to know how far the government
has got prepared to ensure that a most precious commodity like sugar is made
available during the month of Ramadhan scheduled to start in mid of May this
year. Responding to her question, the premier said that, the government has
issued extra permit s to traders in order to import sugar to cover the
shortages which might occur. The premier has also directed district executives,
regional commissioners as well as other related bodies to ensure that all
edible commodities including sugar is not hiked during the holy month of
Ramadhan. However, he has called upon the executives to monitor traders in
their respective jurisdictions in order to clear any doubts bearing in mind the
fact that sugar is the most comm. oddity used for the preparation of the iftar.
