Need to stop fishing expedition along Selou National park is underway
The government has banned with immediate effects all
fishing expeditions which was taking place at along the Rufiji river confluence
bordering the Seoul National Park in southern part of the country, the deputy
minister for Livestock and Fisheries Abdallah Uledi has said. Uledi told
Members of Parliament last week during its session of question and answers
that, the decision by the government has come after having discovered that,
there were some unscrupulous fishermen who sailed in their boats along and
enter with firearms at the park and indiscriminately killed animals. In view of
this, however he noted that, the government has issued a directive and required
all fishermen to carry on their fishing activities in dams which are far away
from the national park. The deputy minister was responding to the question
earlier raised by Kibiti legislator Ally Seif Ungando (CCM) who wanted to know
measures taken by the government to protect the national park and the fishing
activities done at Rifiji river in his constituency.
