Heavy rains to hit coastal belt, says TMA
TMA’s Director General Dr. Agness Kijazi
Tanzania
Meteorological Agency (TMA) has announced the coming of heavy rains which are
expected to pour down throughout this week up to Sunday along the coastal belt
in regions of Dar es Salaam, Coast, Tanga, Pemba Island and some parts of
Zanzibar. TMA’s Director General Dr. Agness Kijazi said that, “the situation is
due to the strong inter-tropical convergence zone in these areas which keeps on
rotating at a particular time and period”. The announcements by the TMA is a
wake up call to the people who are residing in valleys and who according to the
situation will be badly affected due to flooding waters. It has become a normal
trend of defiance shown by people residing in water prone areas in spite of
government’s directives issued requesting them to vacate for their safety. Two
weeks ago, 12 deaths occurred in Dar es Salaam city following heavy rains which
poured down in three days exclusively.
