Govt insists on ten percent contribution to youth fund in district councils
The government has reiterated its insistence by
directing all district council authorities in the country to make sure that,
they contribute a proportion of the ten percent from the amount of money they
collect from their levies. The Minister of State in President’s office who is
responsible for Local Government and Regional Administration (TAMISEMI)
Selemani Jafo issued a strong statement in parliament last week during question
and answer session. Minister Jafo was responding to a question earlier raised
by Buhigwe legislator Albert Obama Mtambaliba (CCM) over the economic empowerment
for women and youths in their country.
The legislator wanted to know the
government’s stance over the reluctance shown by district authorities in his
newly established Buhigwe district to abide by the government’s directives
which requires all district councils to contribute 10 percent of their incomes
to women and youth fund established in the district. Minister Jafo noted that,
any district authority that will blatantly refuse to abide by the government’s
directives will face severe punishment as this is already a policy agreed by
parliamentarians two years ago. He said the government would continue helping
women and youths through these funds which have been established countrywide without
failure and whoever tend to impose an impediment will see the wrath of the law.
