Govt to start constructing road linking three regions
The government has confirmed in parliament today
that, it has dished out Tshs. 1.089 bn/- for the construction of the road
linking three regions of Songwe, Rukwa and Katavi, the deputy minister for
Works, Transport and Communication Eklias Kwandikwa has said. The minister has given
a sigh of relief to legislators representing constituencies in these three
regions following their long standing claims to have the road constructed which
had never been implemented since the time of the administration of the fourth
phase government. The deputy minister made it clear in the house that, the
government has already announced the contractor who would undertake the
construction work which is to be done at a tarmac level. The minister outlined
reasons for the delaying the project since then and said that among the factors
which the government was waiting is to kick start some of the projects was concentrating
paying the accumulated debts owned by contractors in the country. The deputy
minister was responding to the question earlier raised by Mbozi legislator
Pascal Yohane Haonga (Chadema) who wanted to know why the government does not
want to pay attention to the road despite numerous claims by legislators in
three regions. Earlier the Kwela legislator Ignas Malocha (CCM) raised a
question which was directed to the Works ministry with a view to know why the
road which is economically viable is not given weight it deserve.
