Public announcement on salary increment has negative impact, says PM

Prime Minister Kassim Majaliwa has said that, the traditional way of announcing salary increase for workers in public as it was being done in the past, has a negative impact that causes an abrupt increase of the commodities in the country. The premier made the statement last week in parliament in what legislators and people in the country perceived the notion as a way of defending President John Magufuli who refused to do so during the national May Day celebrations which were held in Dodoma city. He was responding to an impromptu question which was directed to him by the Special Seat legislator Suzan Lyimo (Chadema) who wanted to know from the prime minister plans by the government to promote workers’’ salaries and remunerations. The premier noted that, currently the government is striving to create a friendly working environment for public workers by giving them annual increments and have teemed up to repay long standing debts which had been accumulated for long. However, the Premier noted that, workers should not despair with what the president had said that he won’t increase their salary at this time around on grounds of concentrating on mega projects going on in the country, but should they draw patience as when time has come the government would fulfill its promises. However, he noted that, the government is keen to promote its workers’ welfare and is was not a must to make public announcements of the salary increase as this is not in accordance with the rules, but the government may decide to do it in a silent manner.
