Tanzania
Communication Regulatory Authority (TCRA) has cautioned the general public not
to respond to the short text messages (SMS) sent in their mobile handsets
requesting them to send money to the prescribed number which appears on their
phone handsets. TCRA’s Director General Eng. James Kilaba told journalists over
the weekend in Dar es Salaam that, TCRA
as a national regulator of all transactions entered through mobile phones has
issued a special book which would direct users on how to make use of their
phones and never accept any deceit. However, he has requested users to
repudiate such controversial messages which comes across on their mobile phone
screens, while on their part are currently working with the security agents to
net the culprits who cheats to lure people’s mind into facilitating illegal
transactions by theft.

He noted that, once their investigations is complete
will expose such mischievous acts in public view as none among the defaulters
will ever escape in a trap already set to net them bearing in mind the fact
that this is a criminal offense. Scores of mobile phone users across the
country have been receiving controversial short text messages occasionally
requesting them to send money to the prescribed numbers which appears on the
screens of their mobile phones leaving them stranded on what to do. TCRA has
however discovered that unknown mindset people who do such things are online
