Govt to offer a mobile medical van to help sensitizing women’s maternal health issues

The government has come up with a strategy of introducing a mobile medical van which will help sensitize women on the issues related with maternal health and child care, the Health Minister has said last week in Parliament today. The government’s move follows the reluctance which is being shown by some women especially those living in rural areas, despite of their remote location the government has been trying to sensitize them but never turn up to attend specialized meetings prepared for them. The Minister for Health and Community Development, Elderly, Children and disabled Ummy Mwalimu said that, after the government had realized such a slacking move has developed among women in the local communities, the government is planning for a new mechanism and introduce a mobile van which will be moving around to sensitize women wherever they are.

The Minister was responding a supplementary question which was raised by Nyamagana legislator Stanslaus Mabula (CCM) who wanted to know strategies laid down by the government in order to make sure that problems related with maternal and child mortality rates ends in his constituency. In responding to this question, Minister Ummy Mwalimu said that women residing in rural areas and those in urban centers are quite reluctant to attend to specialized hospitals for sensitization on programs for their maternal health and if they do, then they spend fewer hours. He also noted that, as men have now started to talk about the matter is really an indication that the situation is worse and not so conducive and that it really need great help from the eyes of the general public.

In order to curb the escalating challenges which prevail, the government has decided to come up with such a strategic means of mobilizing the maternal health services by transferring such services to the local communities on mobile vans. The Minister added that, there will be a special mobile van which will be specially assigned to go to far flung areas where women are and deliver the intended services to them. The minister disclosed that, if the government will not take appropriate measures, then there is danger of being overwhelmed and cited the statistics which proves that by 2030 it is estimated that, Tanzanian population would be pegged at 70 million people  and might be risen up to 100 people by 2050.
