TRA confiscates 41 boxes of spirited alcoholic drinks in Dodoma
Tanzania
Revenue Authority (TRA) has impounded and later confiscated 41 boxes containing
spirited bottles of alcoholic drinks after having found them without a sealed
national tax stamp in one of the whole sales shops selling such products in
Dodoma city. The boxes worth Tshs. 3 million belongs to one Anthony George a
trader in the city, have been impounded by the TRA’s Commissioner General
Charles Kichere who made an impromptu visit to his shop located at the centre
of the city. The TRA;s Commissioner was in a mission to inspect use of the
Electronic Fiscal Devices (EFD) machines by various bigger business enterprises
including petrol stations in Dodoma city over the weekend.
Speaking yo journalists,
the TRA boss elaborated on the types of boxes with their contents need to have
a national sealed tax stamp to verify that tax is already paid fir the
products. He further clarified that, the move on other side helps TRA of the
valid tax payments transactions, however, he clarified more and noted that
sealed tax stamps are supposed to be fixed on consignments of goods before are
sold to customers on retail basis. Under the process, the government is sure of
getting the correct amount of taxes to be collected and this helps facilitate
collection process monitored by TRA officials. He said that, the boxes
confiscated includes 27 boxes of Robertson liquor, 7 boxes of James, 5 boxes of
Drostdy Hof and 2 boxes of Alko Dompo. Also in his mission, the TRA boss
ordered one bodaboda driver whom he fined Tshs. 30,000/- on the spot after
having found him to have bought fuel for his motorbike and could not demand for
an electronic receipt.
Bodaboda driver who pleaded for mercy before the TRA Boss Mr. Kichere and without help ended up being fined.
He said people who do not have the habit of demanding
receipts are doing ,mistakes and need to be fined between Tshs. 30,000/- and
Tshs. 1.5 million, of face jail term of not less than six months imprisonment
his is in accordance with the Income Tax Act of 2015. He elaborated that, the
apprehension of this man and his subsequent imposition of his fine would serve
as an example for others who do not have the habit of demanding a receipt in
exchange of the services rendered to them. He further elaborated that, in every
such a transaction every buyer has the right to demand a receipt as per the
indication in the laws governing the national income tax regulations and
supervision.
