Water irrigation scheme projects faces lots of challenges in Tanzania

Abdalah Bulembo

The government has admitted the fact that, water irrigation scheme projects going on in various places in the country have been slowing down due to lack of enough fund to run such projects. The deputy minister for water and irrigation Jumaa Aweso said last week in the parliament during question and answer session that, “the government is looking for the money from reliable donors in order to run projects going on in various districts in the country”. The minister was answering a question which was raised in parliament by Abdalah Bulembo (CCM) on behalf of the Member of Parliament for Serengeti constituency Marwa Ryoba(CCM). The legislator wanted to know the long constructed Nyachira water irrigation scheme in his constituency since 2008 does not flow water through its installed water taps and demanded for the explanations from the government. The minister noted that, there are so many water irrigation scheme projects which faces the same problem and the government is trying all it can in order to minimize the situation.
