Others in the list includes Lake Manyara where lions climb trees, Tangarire, Selous game reserve, Katavi, Kitulo, Mahale, Udzungwa, Gombe, Saadani and many others and not forgetting Ruaha National Park the biggest in size in Tanzania. Apart from historic sites in Bagamoyo, there are wonderful ruins in Kilwa in Lindi region and drawings in the caves of Kondoa Irangi in Dodoma region. If you don’t mind, you can follow the footsteps of the 18th century British and American explorers from the coastal town of Bagamoyo to the western town of Kigoma on the shores of Lake Tanganyika. According to the spokesman in the ministry of Tourism in the country, Mr. Mwita Matiko, many Tanzanians shun away from domestic tourism as they have an attitude that tourism is only for foreigners. According to him, Tanzania is targeting about 600,000 local tourists over the next two years, a significant increase from the current 400,000 tourists a year. The ministry is determined to educate people on the importance of visiting tourism attractions as well as the role they can play in building the country’ national economy through the sector. These attractions are not the preserve of the foreigners. The strategy will be sustainable and that it intends to attract more Tanzanians to visit tourist attractions scattered everywhere in the country. Tanzania needs both the local as well as the foreigners. In view of this fact, the strategy would help to sensitize the local people and put away their mindset and culture that tourism is for the westerners only and create an awareness through education.
